Illegal migration to the United States was on the rise during the pandemic. Migrants coming from South America normally fly to Mexico or other surrounding countries and continue on foot. But others walk through the Darien Gap, a dangerous jungle that connects South America with Central America. Panama reported that roughly 130,000 migrants entered the country by crossing this rainforest from Colombia.
