Scottish leader Humza Yousaf, the first minister of Scotland, said on Oct. 10 that his in-laws are currently trapped in Gaza as the Israeli offensive on the region continues following a surprise attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas over the weekend.

He and his wife have been worried sick for their safety, he said. He added that his in-laws were told to leave immediately by Israeli officials because Gaza will effectively be "turned into rubble."

In March 2023, Yousaf became the youngest person and the first Muslim to be appointed first minister, the head of the Scottish government.
