Deborah Meaden made her first entrepreneurial moves at a very young age “I can remember when I was about seven, picking some flowers from the garden and setting up a little flower stall by the side of the road,” she tells Stephen Cole – “I always wanted to be in business.”
She set up her first real business – importing and exporting ceramics – when she was just 19, before joining her family’s amusement park business and going on to lead a management buyout of a holiday park enterprise from which she made millions.
She’s now best known as a dragon on the UK TV show “Dragons’ Den” where she uses her money to invest in the next generation of entrepreneurs. And she knows what she’s looking for in a potential business partner: “They've got to have a really clear vision as to what they want to do and what they want to achieve. And I've got to trust them…”
And she says there’s one thing that matters more than anything for the potential entrepreneur: “Timing is everything - even the best business in the world has the right time.”
