Germany could stay in lockdown until April due to the new variant first found in the UK, Angela Merkel has said.
The German chancellor said that the new COVID-19 strain is the cause of the continued tough restrictions with the country in lockdown since last November.
Health officials have seen no decline in COVID-19 infections in recent weeks despite stricter measures in place.
