Controversy in Colombia in the war on drugs
1m 3s
A recent U.N. report says coca production in Colombia has slightly dropped. However, it’s still too high and the country is at risk of losing U.S. funding to combat it. According to the government, the number of coca crops increased at least four times during the previous administration.
CGTN’s Elaine Reyes sat down to talk with the current Colombian ambassador to the U.S., Francisco Santos. He served as the country’s vice president when coca production reached a record low. They spoke about techniques to fight drug-trafficking including the government’s plans to resume with the practice of spraying a controversial herbicide. Here is sneak peak of this exclusive interview for an upcoming episode of “Americas Now."
