Putin said that 7 million rubles will be paid to families of service members killed in the operation. The Russian Defense Ministry released a casualty report Wednesday.
Major General Igor Konashenkov said 498 Russian soldiers have been killed and 1,597 wounded, according to AP.
That number was different from the count of Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, who said Wednesday that nearly 6,000 Russian troops have been killed in the conflict.
